Even when I went on to train as a Registered Midwife in 2000 and made the move to Canada in 2007 to continue practicing, I always embraced the performance-based and educational elements of my career. I spoke at conferences, ran workshops and became a media spokesperson for my professional association. I spent years learning how to effectively tailor my communication style to my audience, whether it was one of my students or a room full of doctors. And having my 2 kids was yet another opportunity to carry on refining my narration skills, with each and every children's book I've read out loud - and there have been thousands! My children are my strongest critics, and they have taught me well, bless their little cotton socks. So, when the time came for me to move on from midwifery after nearly 20 years of being on-call, I realised that voiceover was the natural choice for me.
It felt like coming home.
In short, I love what I do, and I couldn't stop doing it if I tried.
